The Hallertau Asparagus Weeks

Spargelwochen in der Hallertau

Asparagus was prized as a delicacy even by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans! This delicate and noble vegetable can be prepared in many sumptuous ways and has acquired many fans for its health-promoting effects. Alas, asparagus doesn’t just grow anywhere and is very demanding on those who cultivate it. The sandy yet nutrient-dense soils of the Hallertau provide ideal conditions for growing these delicately pale sprigs. Asparagus from Hallertau is widely appreciated for its excellent flavour.

The Hallertau Hop Asparagus Weeks

Hallertauer-Hopfenspargelwochen

The romance of the Hallertau hop country cannot be denied. The gently rolling hills with their distinctive hop gardens, so visible from afar and so typical of this area, and especially the famous hospitality of the „Holledauers“, have long made this patch of earth something very special.

The Hallertau Game Weeks

Hallertauer-Wildwochen

For many centuries, autumn has been the season of the hunt, providing us with the bounty of fresh game harvested during that season. And whereas in former times the meat from our wild animals was strictly reserved to nobility, nowadays nearly everyone can afford to enjoy roast game. We are very proud to announce this year’s Hallertau Game Weeks, made possible again thanks to the joint efforts of the county, the hotel and catering association, and the hunters’ association.

The German Hop Route

Deutsche Hopfenstraße

The original trade and traffic route connecting Freising, Au i.d. Hallertau and Abensberg, in its basic form, dates back as far as the early 12th century. If historic sources are to be believed, until 1664 this route was the only major traffic link connecting Munich and Regensburg. As such, the route became increasingly valuable both to the region’s numerous trade and business connections and notably to the bishops’ customs revenues, considering how easy the route had made it for the subjects to haul their duties and tributes to the Freising Chapter.
